Electronic Fax Kfax

Let me guess. Need a fax software with some serious, raw loading power? Kfax may be your cup of tea. Kfax is a G3/G4 viewer for KDE. Now, I am no techno-genius, but what it sounds like to me is that Kfax is a fax viewer FOR KDE, it will load land support tiffed fax images, raw as they are.

Kfax is a part of the KDE graphics module. Surprising enough, Kfaxj, depending on when you are reading this, is either going to be, or has already been, replaced by Okular. Okular is a document viewer that is basically universal and is based on KPDF for KDE 4.

If you are wondering what Okular is like, it is like this. It is a combination of the functionality of KPDF, and has the versatility to support many different kinds of documents. PDF, for one. Also Postscript, DjVu, CHM, and many others.

The history of Okular goes back to about Marhc 5, 2008, With the release of Okular 0.6.2. In April of 2008, Okular 0.6.3 was released, followed in July by version 0.7. The latest version, released in October, 2008, is version 0.7.2. Development of Okular began back in 2007 as part of Google’s summer of code program.

While those of you looking for Kfax may be a little confused, be advised that Okular has served as a replacement. So, rather than seeking out the elusive Kfax, find Okular. It will do what you need it to do, and especially if you get the later version, you won’t have any trouble reading and/or loading whatever you may need.

So, good luck. And happy hunting. Hopefully I have answered some questions, and steered you in the right direction. Now, armed with one of the most powerful viewers you can get, get out there and receive some faxes!
